Chandigarh: IMD issues High Alert in Punjab for moderate to heavy rainfall for next 48-72 hours

Chandigarh: The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert in Punjab for the heavy rainfall in the next 48-72 hours. The IMD in a letter to Financial Commissioner Revenue, Government of Punjab said, "In view of the confluence of the monsoonal system with extratropical system widespread rainfall of moderate to heavy intensity (7-12 cm) very likely in Punjab during next 48-72 hours."

It further said, "Districts likely to be affected are Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda, Moga, Barnala and adjoining areas including catchment of Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej during this period. One or two spells of very heavy rainfall exceeding 12 cm very likely over Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and adjoining areas during this period. Kindly take adequate safety measures in view of the above."

Meanwhile, the Punjab Government has issued an alert and warned the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts for the heavy rainfall. Likewise, Chandigarh has witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday. Not only Chandigarh, but the native areas like Mohali too witnessed the heavy rainfall.
