Delhi to have its own school education board: Arvind Kejriwal

In a major development, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Saturday announced the constitution of the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE).

"In today's cabinet meeting, we have given approval to the constitution of a Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE)," said the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

He further said that there were around 1000 government schools and 1700 private schools in Delhi. All govt schools and most private schools here are affiliated with CBSE, he said.

In academic session 2021-22, Delhi will include 20-25 schools in this Board, he added.

He also announced that the CBSE affiliation of these schools will be scrapped and they'll be affiliated with the Delhi Board of School Education.

The schools will be selected after discussion with principals, teachers and parents, he said, adding that "We hope that all schools will voluntarily get affiliated to this Board within 4-5 years."

According to the Delhi Chief Minister, the Board will have a Governing Body, chaired by the Education Minister. It will also have an Executive Body for a day-to-day function which will be headed by a CEO.

Both the Bodies will have experts - from industry, education sector, Principals of government and private schools, bureaucrats," the Delhi CM announced.
