Gunmen kill 66 in Nigeria ahead of the presidential election

An unidentified gunman on Friday killed a total of 66 people in Kaduna state in Nigeria ahead of the presidential elections. More than 20 children and 12 women were among those who were killed in the attack.

According to media sources, the authorities are yet to ascertain the cause of violence. Security personnel had been deployed to maintain law and order. It has also arrested some suspects in connection with the attack.

The government spokesperson urged religious leaders, traditional and community leaders in the area not to take the matter into their hands. On January 22, the Nigerian government alleged that there security threats to the upcoming general elections in the country. The government alerted the citizens of the West African country.
