High Court provides safety to Newly-wed Sangrur couple

Distressed newly-wed Sangrur couple, Shamsher Singh (67) and Navpreet Kaur (27) defended their wedding by showing that the norms of society sometimes lead unconventional couples like them to a whole lot of troubles.

Shamsher Singh, a resident of Balian village of Dhuri, married Navpreet Kaur, in Chandigarh in January. Their wedding photographs were widely circulated on social media, leading to their troubles. The families turned against them. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stepped in and provided security to the couple on Thursday.

The couple approached the High court while facing threats from their families and relatives. The court directed the SSPs of Sangrur and Barnala district to ensure their safety.

Sangrur SSP Sandeep Garg assured that the couple will be given protection as per the law.
