Munshi shoots traffic ASI dead in Dera Bassi

Local traffic in-charge ASI Lakhwinder Singh Lakha was shot dead by a munshi with a service rifle on Wednesday night at the Dear Bassi police station. The accused munshi, Kala Khan, was arrested immediately by the police.

What exactly happened?

Around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, head constable Lekh Raj and munshi Kala Khan, both posted at the Dera Bassi police station were fighting over night duty hours dispute. They both got into a heated argument. Kala Khan was drunk and tried to hit Lekh Raj with a wooden plank. In order to save himself, Lekh Raj locked himself in a room.

Around 9:45 pm, traffic in-charge Lakhwinder Singh reached police station to submit a challan. Kala Khan in a fit of rage picked up a service rifle and shot Lakhwinder Singh. The ASI received deep bullet injury between his chin and neck. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries. The police has shifted his body for post-mortem.

ASI Lakhwinder Singh Lakha was a resident of Tripuri in Patiala.
