Around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, head constable Lekh Raj and munshi Kala Khan, both posted at the Dera Bassi police station were fighting over night duty hours dispute. They both got into a heated argument. Kala Khan was drunk and tried to hit Lekh Raj with a wooden plank. In order to save himself, Lekh Raj locked himself in a room. Kala Khan in a fit of rage picked up a service rifle and shot Lakhwinder Singh. The ASI received deep bullet injury between his chin and neck. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries. The police has shifted his body for post-mortem.
