PTC Web Desk:  A 17-year-old girl travelling from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri to Noida was allegedly gang-raped by a bus driver and conductor after she got stranded during heavy rain, the police said.

The incident took place on the night of August 4. The teenager was travelling to Noida to meet her cousin but accidentally got off the bus at Pari Chowk amid the bad weather.

According to the police, she later noticed an empty sleeper bus and signalled for help. The driver, identified as Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep, allegedly offered her a lift.

The police said the two men allegedly raped the girl inside the bus and threatened her before leaving her near Delhi’s Kashmere Gate.

Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation and used CCTV footage along with human intelligence to trace the accused. Kuldeep and Sandeep were subsequently arrested.

The bus, which had a Uttar Pradesh registration number, was also impounded as part of the investigation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Niharika Bhatt said the Delhi Police registered the case at Kashmere Gate police station because of the sensitive nature of the matter, even though the alleged crime took place in Noida.

Girl produced before child welfare committee

The teenager was produced before the Child Welfare Committee following the incident. The police said she underwent a medical examination and was also provided counselling. After the necessary procedures, the girl was handed over to her family.

A case has been registered at the Kashmere Gate police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
