Chandigarh administration suspends inDrives licence for six months over policy violations

PTC News Desk: The Chandigarh administration has suspended the licence of Indsystems IT Private Limited, which operates the inDrive cab hailing service, for six months, citing non-compliance of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Rules and continued violation of regulatory norms.
The order, issued by the STA, prohibits the company from operating cab and bike-taxi services in Chandigarh during the suspension period.
Officials said the company had failed to meet several important requirements under the aggregator policy. These included not providing mandatory driver welfare measures such as health and term insurance and proper training. The company also failed to submit required compliance reports and did not respond adequately to communications from the Transport Department.
Authorities also found violations related to prescribed fares and other operating rules, along with irregularities during inspections.
The administration has ordered all vehicle owners and drivers working with inDrive to immediately stop operating in Chandigarh. They have also been told not to accept any bookings through the inDrive app. Failure to follow the order could lead to strict legal action.
Officials warned that vehicles found operating in violation of the order would be challaned and impounded.
The public has also been advised not to book rides through the inDrive app while the suspension is in place. Commuters have been asked to use other aggregator services registered with the Chandigarh Transport Department.
The State Transport Authority (STA) reiterated that drivers and vehicle owners linked to inDrive must immediately stop operations and not accept bookings through the app. Any violation will invite strict action, including fines and vehicle impounding.
