Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh dies of heart attack during Bharat Jodo Yatra

Jalandhar, January 14: Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh died of heart attack during Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in Punjab's Phillaur on Saturday morning.

He was attending Bharat Jodo Yatra with Rahul Gandhi when he suddenly felt unwell and was admitted to Phagwara’s Virk hospital. 

He was declared dead when he reached hospital.  

As soon as Rahul Gandhi received the news he left the Bharat Jodo Yatra and reached the hospital.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also tweeted and expressed grief over sudden demise of Congress MP. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the untimely death of Congress Member of Parliament from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chowdhury.. May God rest his soul in peace.”

 

Captain Amarinder Singh also took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "Extremely saddened to hear about the sudden demise of MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary ji due to a heart attack today.

My heartfelt condolences are with his entire family in their time of grief. May Waheguru Ji grant eternal peace to the departed soul."

Congress MP Singh was the former Cabinet Minister of Punjab and member of parliament from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency.

Chaudhary Santokh Singh won the 2014 and 2019 General Elections.  

Notably, Rahul Gnadhi’s yatra started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will end at Srinagar on January 30. 

The Bharat Jodo Yatra covered several parts such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
