PTC Web Desk: A government school teacher in Uttarakhand's Dehradun allegedly died by suicide after facing months of mental and physical harassment over dowry, according to a police complaint filed by her family.

The deceased, identified as Srishti Kandhari, had married Saurabh Raturi, a government employee, in November last year. The couple lived in the Doiwala area, around 20 km from Dehradun city.

Following a complaint by the victim's mother, the police have registered an FIR against the husband, his mother and his sister.

Family alleges dowry harassment

In her complaint, Kandhari's mother alleged that her daughter was repeatedly harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry.

She also claimed that Srishti was subjected to mental and physical abuse and was frequently blamed for events that occurred after the marriage. According to the complaint, she was repeatedly referred to as "unlucky" and "manhoos" by her in-laws.

Emotional video emerges before death

An emotional video, allegedly recorded by Srishti before her death, has surfaced on social media.

In the recording, she is seen crying and apologising to her mother. She is seen saying "Sorry, mummy, main aise ja rahi hoon (Sorry, I am leaving like this)." She says she had been enduring the situation for several months and felt she could no longer bear the alleged harassment.

She also claimed that she was constantly blamed for incidents that happened after her marriage and described the repeated remarks made against her by family members.

The police said Srishti died by suicide on Wednesday. Based on the complaint filed by her mother, an FIR has been registered against her husband Saurabh Raturi, mother-in-law Parvina, and sister-in-law Charu.

Doiwala Circle Officer Vandana Verma said police and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the scene after receiving information about the incident.

She confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been conducted and that the investigation is underway.

According to the officer, the FIR has been registered under provisions related to dowry death, based on the allegations made by the victim's family.

The police said Srishti had been married for around eight months. Officials added that both Srishti and her husband were employed in government service.
