Delhi daycare horror: 3-year-old beaten, tied to chair for hours at playschool in Zafarabad

PTC News Desk: In a horrific incident, a three-year-old boy was beaten, tied to chair for hours and subjected to brutal injuries at a playschool in Delhi's Zafarabad. The abuse was captured in the school CCTV following which the police registered a case under provisions including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. A maid working at the school has been detained, while the role of other individuals, including a teacher, is being investigated.
The incident came to light on August 18, when the child returned from school with swollen eyes and ears and was also vomiting. Worried about his health, his family immediately took him to a doctor.
The child complained of pain, and the doctor found that both eardrums were severely swollen. He suspected that the injuries could have been caused by physical assault. The doctor advised the family to get a CBC test and CT scan and warned that the child might need hospitalisation if his condition did not improve within a day or two.
The father said the doctor told them that the child appeared to have been beaten and repeatedly pulled by his ears, possibly over several days.
Shocked by this, the father went to the playschool to find out what had happened. However, the teacher and other staff allegedly denied beating the child.
The father then asked to see the CCTV footage. According to him, the school authorities asked him to pay ₹1,500 for the recordings. He also alleged that the school remained closed for several days before he was finally allowed to access the footage.
The family insisted on getting recordings from all cameras covering the classroom rather than footage from just one camera.
After watching the footage from August 18, the father allegedly saw the child being subjected to physical abuse. He then checked footage from August 16 and 17 and claimed that similar incidents had taken place on those days as well.
The father alleged that on August 18, the child was tied to a chair for nearly three hours. His hands were reportedly left free, but he was fastened to the chair with what appeared to be a belt or strap.
The family later approached the police, and a case was registered on August 28 under the POCSO Act. Police detained the maid in connection with the case and are investigating the possible involvement of other people associated with the school, including the teacher.
