Delhi Police de-notify Jantar Mantar as protest venue, three other sites designated for demonstrations
The development comes amid a standoff with the Cockroach Janta Party over permission to hold peaceful protest and the INDIA blocs planned march to the Supreme Court.
PTC News Desk: The Delhi Police has de-notified Jantar Mantar as protest site and designated three other venues for holding demonstration, according to official order dated October 11, 2026. The development comes amid a standoff with the Cockroach Janta Party over permission to hold peaceful protest and the INDIA bloc's planned march to the Supreme Court .
According to a standing order dated October 11, 2026, the three newly designated venues are Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi. The order, signed by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, modifies an earlier standing order dated April 28, 2022, which had designated Jantar Mantar as a protest venue.
Police said revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) for organising protests at three designated locations would be issued separately.
The development comes after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders walked out of Parliament Street police station on Monday and renewed their demand for permission to hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar.
CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the party had formally informed the police about its plan to hold a peaceful demonstration and had requested a date for the protest. He claimed that although the police had acknowledged the party’s request, they had neither allotted a date nor explained the reasons for withholding permission.
“We have given them 24 hours to give us a date,” Das said, adding that the party would announce a march if the police failed to respond within the deadline.
Das also accused the police of using excessive force against protesters during the recent crackdown. He alleged that demonstrators had been beaten inside police buses and claimed that senior officers, including the DCP and Additional DCP, had refused to speak to the delegation.
“The Government of India is waging a war on its own citizens,” he said, while asserting that the party would continue its protests peacefully.
