Haryana announces early summer vacation in govt schools amid severe heatwave

PTC Web Desk:  In view of the rising temperatures and ongoing heatwave conditions across the state, the Education Department in Haryana has announced early summer vacations for government schools. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held in Chandigarh, attended by the state’s Education Minister and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

According to the announcement, summer vacations in government schools will begin from May 25 and continue till June 30. Traditionally, summer vacations in schools across Haryana commence from June 1 every year, but this time the schedule has been advanced due to extreme weather conditions.

During the meeting, officials also reviewed the status of basic infrastructure in government schools and discussed measures to ensure essential facilities for students amid the intense heat.

In another significant decision, the Education Minister directed that teachers in government schools will not be allowed to use mobile phones inside classrooms during teaching hours. The minister also announced that voluntary labour activities would be incorporated into the school curriculum as part of educational and social development initiatives.

Haryana has been witnessing a severe heatwave over the past several days, with scorching temperatures affecting normal life across the state. 

According to the Meteorological Department, there is currently no immediate relief expected from the prevailing weather conditions. Temperatures in five districts of the state crossed the 45 degrees Celsius mark. Rohtak recorded the highest maximum temperature of 46.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which was 6.2 degrees above normal.

The weather department has issued an orange alert for severe heatwave conditions in Haryana till May 25, warning residents to take necessary precautions.
