Maharashtra tragedy: Three newborns die after ventilator blast triggers massive fire at Amravati hospital

PTC News Desk: Three newborn babies died after a fire triggered by ventilator blast broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the District Women's Hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra, early Monday morning.
The fire reportedly broke out around 3:30 am in the NICU on the hospital’s third floor. Initial reports suggest that the fire may have started after a ventilator exploded. However, the exact cause is not yet known and will be confirmed after an investigation.
Hospital Staff Start Rescue Operation
As soon as the fire was noticed, doctors, nurses and other staff members immediately started evacuating the newborns. Thick smoke and flames caused panic inside the hospital, while staff worked to move the babies to safer places.
Several newborns were rescued from the affected unit. However, three babies suffered serious burn injuries and died, according to preliminary information.
Around six other newborns were shifted to a super-speciality hospital for further treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.
The hospital administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Officials are expected to inspect the ventilators, electrical equipment and other systems in the NICU to find out how the fire started.
