PTC News Desk: Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, on Saturday appealed to Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh to change the date of his Delhi concert scheduled for November 1 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

In a post on X, Sahney addressed Diljit, describing him as a source of pride for Punjab and an artist who represents India on the international stage. He also highlighted the painful memories associated with November 1 for thousands of families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.

"Diljit bhaji, you are Punjab's pride and India's voice to the world. But 1st November is the anniversary of the 1984 Sikh genocide in Delhi. For thousands of families, those days are still full of grief," MP wrote in social media post.

The MP urged Diljit and his team to move the concert to another date, keeping in mind the significance of the day for the affected families.

The 1984 anti-Sikh violence broke out after then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards. In the aftermath, Sikh communities in several parts of India faced widespread and organised attacks, with Delhi among the worst-affected areas.

November 1 remains a deeply painful date for families who lost loved ones during the violence.

Diljit’s Aura India Tour is scheduled to begin at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on November 1. After the opening concert, the tour will travel to Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh.

Tickets for the Delhi concert are available on BookMyShow. Sahney’s appeal has brought renewed attention to the concert date and its significance for survivors and families affected by the 1984 violence.
