Two Australian cricketers stalked, one molested in Indore; accused held

The police stated that while two cricketers were stalked, one of them was allegedly molested by Aqeel Khan. The incident occurred on the Khajrana Road area on Thursday morning while the team was going to a cafe from the Radisson Blu Hotel.

PTC News Desk: Two Australian women cricketers who are part of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup squad were allegedly stalked and molested by a bike-borne man in Madhya Pradesh's Indore, police said on Saturday. 


The police stated that while two cricketers were stalked, one of them was allegedly molested by Aqeel Khan. The incident occurred on the Khajrana Road area on Thursday morning while the team was going to a cafe from the Radisson Blu Hotel.


According to the Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi the duo was out on a stroll and were walking towards a cafe when the biker approached them. He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately and rode off. 


The cricketers then contacted their team security officer, Danny Simmons with local security liaison officers and dispatched a vehicle for assistance. On getting information, Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met both the players recorded their statements and registered a first information report under section 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman's modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station.


The official further said that an eyewitness noted the suspect's motorcycle number based on which the accused, Aqeel Khan, was apprehended. 



Meanwhile, the Australian cricket team has been in Indore for the past week. They faced England on Wednesday, just a day before the incident occurred. Australia is scheduled to play South Africa on Thursday, after which the team will travel either to Guwahati or Mumbai, depending on their semifinal opponent in the tournament.
