Gadaar written outside Bhajji’s house: AAP Youth Wing protests at LPU and Harbhajan Singh’s residence, posters defaced
AAP workers staged protests in Jalandhar against alleged defection of Rajya Sabha MPs to BJP, accusing leaders of betrayal
PTC Web Desk: Tensions escalated on Saturday as workers of AAP staged protests in Jalandhar against several Rajya Sabha MPs who allegedly switched allegiance to the BJP.
AAP youth wing members gathered outside the residence of former cricketer-turned-politician Harbhajan Singh, raising slogans and expressing strong resentment over what they termed a “betrayal” of the party. Protesters reportedly wrote objectionable remarks on the walls outside his residence while chanting slogans against the leaders accused of defecting.
In a separate demonstration, party workers assembled outside Lovely Professional University (LPU), targeting Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal. Protesters burned an effigy and raised slogans, accusing him and other leaders of abandoning the party for political gain. Posters outside the university were also defaced with black spray paint during the agitation.
The protesters alleged that seven Rajya Sabha MPs, including Harbhajan Singh, Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak, had left AAP to join the BJP, calling the move a “betrayal of Punjab and its people.”
Many demonstrators wore black bands on their heads as a symbol of protest. Despite police presence at the sites, some workers clashed briefly with personnel when attempts were made to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier accused the BJP of attempting to destabilise his government. He claimed that the opposition party, fearing its weak position in the state, was trying to break AAP by influencing its leaders.
CM Mann strongly condemned the alleged developments, stating that the people of Punjab value loyalty and do not easily forgive acts they perceive as betrayal.
