'Traitors of Punjab': AAP takes a jibe at Raghav Chadha, other defected MPs over BJP shift, says 'people will punish them'
PTC News Desk: Raghav Chadha's merger with BJP along with seven other MPs has triggered a sharp war of words with Aam Aadmi Party calling them 'traitors of Punjab'.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday took a sharp jibe at Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak and other Rajya Sabha MPs after they joined the BJP after severing ties with the AAP.
The Punjab unit of AAP while reacting strongly to the development, shared a poster on its Facebook page featuring the defected MPs, viz., Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta and Vikram Sahney in RSS attire, labelling them as 'Traitors of Punjab'.
In a major political development, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal on Friday declared that they have parted ways with the party and decided to align with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Chadha said the decision came after internal differences, remarking that he had been “in the wrong party despite being the right person.” He further claimed that nearly two-thirds of AAP’s Members of Parliament had chosen to exit the party.
Explaining his decision, Chadha said the party he helped build had strayed from its founding ideals. He claimed that AAP, which emerged from an anti-corruption movement, no longer functions in line with those principles.
“I dedicated years of my life to strengthening this party, but over time I felt it was drifting away from its original mission,” he said, adding that he now wishes to continue his political journey with a focus on broader national priorities.
The Rajya Sabha MP while explaining his decision also accused Kejriwal-led outfit of diverting from its very core principles of fighting corruption.
Chadha's resignation brings an end to his 15-year long association with the party, marking one of the major setbacks for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
