CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke vows to go ahead with Delhi protest on October 10

  • He said Jantar Mantar is the designated place for protests.
  • He pointed to Article 19 of the Constitution, which gives citizens a fundamental right to protest, and asked why permission is needed at all.
  • Attacking the Election Commission, he asked whether permission was taken before the names of 13 crore voters were removed.
  • He asked whether people want those who rig elections to go unprotested, and said, “That cannot happen.”
  • He added, “The country cannot run like this. We will protest to save the country.”

PTC Web Desk: The Delhi Police have refused to let the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) hold its planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar on October 10. Restrictions have also been put in place across the New Delhi district for Saturday.

Why permission was refused

Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad explained the decision. She said CJP co-convenor Saurav Das sent in the application on October 7, only three days before the protest. The rule for Jantar Mantar is that organisers must apply at least 10 days ahead.

The police also pointed to what happened the last time the party held a demonstration. According to Prasad, the conditions and lawful directions given then were not followed. Taking the late application, the earlier violations and the current law and order and traffic situation together, the police said the protest could not go ahead.

Section 163 in force

Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed across the New Delhi area. The police say the restrictions are meant to keep the public safe and maintain order. Prasad warned that anyone who breaks the order, vandalises property or damages public property will face legal action, in line with court judgments.

Metro stations may be shut

The police have also written to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). They want entry and exit gates closed at 57 stations and fewer trains stopping there. The plan would start at 9 pm on Friday and last through Saturday until things return to normal.

The list includes Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, New Delhi, Mandi House, ITO, Supreme Court and Kashmere Gate. The letter alone does not mean the DMRC has accepted the request or acted on it. Some railway services and routes into Delhi may also be affected, but details were not available yet.

What the CJP wants

The Cockroach Janata Party called the protest over alleged “vote theft” and wants the Chief Election Commissioner to be held accountable.

'Gyanesh Kumar gaddi chhodo'

Slogans of 'SIR radd karo' and 'Gyanesh Kumar gaddi chhodo' echoed across Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Thursday, as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) began a large protest against the Chief Election Commissioner. Actor-activist Prakash Raj and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee stood with CJP's Abhijeet Dipke on the stage. The group is holding a "people's tribunal" on alleged irregularities in the revision of voter lists. A "chappal protest" will follow. CLICK HERE TO READ FULL TEXT
