Hooda clarifies remarks on Capt Amarinder, says ‘I never claimed he is in touch with Congress’
Bhupinder Singh Hooda clarified that he never claimed Captain Amarinder Singh was in contact with Congress, saying his remarks were misinterpreted amid speculation over the former Punjab CM's political future
PTC Web Desk: Amid growing speculation over former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's possible return to the Congress ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has clarified his earlier remarks, stating that he never said the veteran leader was in contact with the party.
Addressing reporters, Hooda said his comments had been misinterpreted. He explained that when asked about Captain Amarinder Singh, he merely pointed out that the former Punjab Chief Minister had been a senior Congress leader and that political colleagues often remain in touch with one another.
"I spoke to him even today. We have known each other for years and continue to interact. However, I never said that he is in contact with the Congress or that discussions regarding his return are underway," Hooda said.
He further added that any decision regarding Amarinder Singh's political future rests solely with him. "It is entirely his decision what he wants to do politically," Hooda remarked.
The clarification comes hours after Hooda's earlier comments fuelled speculation about a possible rapprochement between Captain Amarinder Singh and the Congress. The discussion had gained traction amid reports of the former Punjab Chief Minister's growing discomfort within the BJP, which he joined after parting ways with the Congress in 2021.
Despite the buzz surrounding his political future, neither Captain Amarinder Singh nor the Congress has made any official statement regarding a possible return to the party.
Expressing confidence in the party's prospects, Hooda also asserted that the Congress would form the next government in Punjab.
