Leaders arrive at Rajghat to continue protest

Oct 8, 2026 05:03 PM

PTC Web Desk: Opposition MPs and Congress workers headed to Rajghat in Delhi on Thursday as their protest continued. They went there after holding a lunch meeting at Connaught Place. Samajwadi Party MP Rajiv Rai said the MPs were going to the venue for a peaceful sit-in.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the INDIA bloc would pray that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah "realise" that what they are doing is not in the interest of the country.

The Opposition plans to press several issues. These include the alleged "vote theft", rising prices, unemployment and what it describes as the erosion of citizens' rights.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi claimed that around 300 MPs were stopped from protesting outside the Election Commission and at Jantar Mantar. He alleged that some of them were assaulted.

Separately, 42 former judges have issued a warning against attempts to weaken constitutional institutions.

Heavy security has been put in place near the Election Commission. Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel and riot-control vehicles have been deployed in the area.
