‘Its a harsh life…’ : Kangana Ranaut compares political career vs life as film star
On balancing her film career with her political duties, the Mandi MP shared that the life of a politician is much "harsher" compared to that of a movie star
New Delhi : Actor-turned-Parliamentarian Kangana Ranaut who recently became the fourth woman ever to be elected to Lok Sabha from Himachal Pradesh, and the first woman who is not from an erstwhile royal family, defeating her Congress rival Vikramaditya Singh, scion of Rampur state and the incumbent state public works minister, by a margin of 74,755 votes from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency, compared life as a movie star and as a politician.
Comparing her life as a film star vs a politician, Kangana Ranaut in an interview remarked that working in films is much easier than being in politics.
She added that she joined the BJP in March this year, despite having received several offers to enter politics over the years.

When asked why she chose the BJP, Kangana explained that she felt it was the right time to make the move, even though she had multiple offers over the years.
Highlighting that her great-grandfather Sarju Singh Ranaut was an MLA, actor-turned-politician said, “Political offers have always been close to my family. I was offered to join politics right after my debut film Gangster. My father and sister have also received similar offers over the years. This is not the first time I was approached to join politics. If I wasn't interested in this, I didn't really have to go through so much trouble.”
On balancing her film career with her political duties, the Mandi MP shared that the life of a politician is much "harsher" compared to that of a movie star.
"It's a harsh life, unlike films. As a film actor, you go to sets and premieres, and you are relaxed. We (actors) live a soft life. So, it took a long time for me to come to terms with this life. This is a harsh life, much like that of doctors, where only troubled people come to see you. When you watch a film, you are very relaxed. But politics is not like that," she explained.

"My guru said if you do what you love, you are intelligent, but if you do what is needed, you will become a genius," she stated, referring to her decision to enter politics.
On the work front, Kangana Ranaut's forthcoming film, Emergency, is her first solo directorial effort. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. The film is around the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with Kangana playing the late leader.
