PTC Web Desk:  Delhi's political temperature is rising. A day after seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs switched to the BJP,  senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Verma on Saturday launched a scathing attack on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of hypocrisy and extravagant living.

Speaking at a press briefing, Verma compared Kejriwal to a notorious fictional villain, dubbing him the “Rehman Dacoit of Delhi,” and alleged that the AAP leader had constructed yet another lavish residence, which he referred to as “Sheesh Mahal 2.” He claimed that the BJP would soon reveal details of this alleged property to the public.

Verma questioned Kejriwal’s long-standing image of simplicity, arguing that his lifestyle now contradicts his earlier promises of living like a common citizen. He also took a swipe at Kejriwal’s recent relocation to a government bungalow at Lodhi Estate, suggesting that the move reflects a shift away from his original political ideals.

The BJP leader further alleged that after losing political ground in Delhi, Kejriwal had turned his focus to Punjab, creating difficulties for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He also claimed that several AAP leaders, including Satyendar Jain, Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia, were occupying government accommodations near the Punjab CM’s residence.

The controversy comes at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party is grappling with a major internal setback. In a surprising development, seven of its Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, announced their resignation from the party and subsequently joined the BJP.

The BJP welcomed the defecting leaders, with party officials highlighting their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Reacting sharply, Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to destabilise governments through political manoeuvres, while Bhagwant Mann labelled the departing MPs as “betrayers.” AAP leaders also alleged that the BJP executed a strategy similar to “Operation Lotus” to engineer the defections.

Adding to the political slugfest, the Delhi BJP shared a provocative post on social media platform X, portraying Kejriwal as an authoritarian figure. The visual narrative suggested growing dissatisfaction within AAP ranks, depicting party workers distancing themselves from the leadership.

The Aam Aadmi Party has not yet issued an official response to the social media campaign.
