Punjab AAP MLA arrested over sexual assault, flees after firing at cops in dramatic escape

PTC News Desk: Sanaur AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra was arrested on Tuesday morning on alleged charges of sexual assault, a day after he criticised his own government for its handling of flood relief operations and accused the "Delhi lobby" of interfering in Punjab's affairs. However, in a dramatic turn of events, he escaped the arrest after opening fire at police officials. 

The incident occurred in Dabri village, Karnal, at the residence of one of his relatives. Pathanmajra managed to flee the scene in a white SUV, reportedly aided by villagers and supporters


According to the sources, the case against Pathanmajra was registered on Monday evening under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).


A senior police official stated, “Yes, he has been booked in a rape case. The complaint was previously under investigation.”


Earlier on Tuesday, Pathanmajra went live on social media, claiming that the case against him was politically motivated.


“They cannot silence me by filing cases. I will continue to raise my voice for the people of my constituency. The Delhi lobby will try everything to suppress dissent,” he said during the live stream.

Earlier, the MLA criticised his own party over mishandling of flood situation in Punjab. Following registration of FIR against him, he went live on facebook and reiterated his critisim for its own government for showing apath and turning a blind-eye towards Punjab, which is battling one of the worst diaster in decades.
