Deceased Ashok Nanda and Renu Bala had organised their daughter’s wedding in Ludhiana; the accident occurred as they were returning after her bidai
PTC Web Desk: A joyous wedding celebration turned into unbearable tragedy in Punjab when a family returning from their daughter’s bidai met with a fatal road accident near Ludhiana. The Innova car carrying the bride’s parents and relatives crashed into a truck, leaving three family members dead and two others critically injured.
The deceased have been identified as Ashok Nanda, his wife Kiran Nanda, and Renu Bala, all residents of Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib district. The injured, Mohan Kumar Nanda and Sharmili Nanda, are fighting for their lives at Apollo Hospital, Ludhiana.
The Nanda family, well-known local businessmen owning a motorcycle showroom in Sirhind, had organised their daughter’s wedding at a marriage palace in Ludhiana because the groom hails from Jalandhar. After the ceremony concluded late Sunday night, the bride’s bidai took place on Monday morning. Moments after she left with her new family, her own parents and relatives also began their journey home.
Their Innova Crysta was moving at a steady speed when tragedy struck near Khakat village. A truck travelling ahead suddenly applied brakes. The driver of the Innova could not stop in time, causing the car to slam into the rear of the truck and drag for several metres due to the impact.
Passersby rushed to help, but the injuries were severe. Despite efforts to save them, the bride’s parents and aunt died on the way to the hospital. The news shattered the family, and what was meant to be the happiest day of their lives turned into a scene of unimaginable grief.
The bride, Gajal, who had barely crossed the Ladowal toll plaza on her way to her new home, was immediately informed. Her bridal car turned around mid-journey and rushed back towards Sirhind. Instead of entering her new home with celebrations, she returned to a house devastated by loss.
The police have registered a case against the truck driver, who is currently absconding.
