Election Commission announces byelection schedule for 90 sarpanch, 1,771 panch seats in Punjab
Polling will be held on July 27 from 8 am to 4 pm using ballot papers | Vote counting will be carried out at the respective polling stations the same day
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab State Election Commission has announced the schedule for byelections to fill 90 vacant Sarpanch positions and 1,771 vacant Panch seats across various districts in the state. These vacancies arose after the general elections to Gram Panchayats held on October 15, 2024.
According to the official schedule, nomination papers can be filed with the respective Returning Officers from Monday, July 14, between 11 am and 3 pm. The last date for filing nominations is Thursday, July 17, by 3 pm. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on Friday, July 18, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is Saturday, July 19 until 3 pm.
Polling will be held on Sunday, July 27, from 8 am to 4 pm, using ballot papers. Vote counting will be carried out at the respective polling stations immediately after the polling concludes.
The final publication of updated electoral rolls was completed on May 23, by the respective District Election Officers.
The expenditure limit for candidates contesting the post of Sarpanch has been fixed at Rs 40,000, while candidates for the post of Panch are allowed a maximum expenditure of Rs 30,000.
The commission has made all necessary logistical and administrative arrangements to ensure that the byelections are conducted in a smooth, fair, and peaceful manner.
