Justice for Bandi Singhs: SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Badal join SGPC’s signature campaign
Chandigarh, February 18: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and party president and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday joined the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) signature campaign seeking the release of Bandi Singhs.
Parkash Singh Badal signed the petition at Badal village. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, while talking to mediapersons after signing the form at Badal village, said it was an honour to join lakhs of Punjabis in signing the petition seeking the release of Bandi Singhs, who continued to be incarcerated in prisons even after the completion of their life sentences.

He appealed to SAD workers to assist the SGPC in making the signature campaign a mass movement by taking it to each and every village in Punjab. He said all Punjabis should sign these form irrespective of their party affiliations.

Sukhbir Singh Badal said this only could make this movement a success. He urged Punjabis, including SAD workers, to strive to complete the drive by Baisakhi.
He said for a record sixth time, a file of Prof Davinderpal Singh Bhullar was sent to the Delhi Government, led by Arvind Kejriwal, to release him, but to no avail.
He said similarly, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government had refused approval for the release of Gurmeet Singh Engineer. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to release these Bandi Singhs on 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev ji, but his promise was never kept.
He said that rule of law should be the same for everyone. Every prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment was released after 14 years of imprisonment, but these Bandi Sikhs were languishing in jails even after more than 30 years of imprisonment, added Sukhbir Singh Badal.
