PTC News Desk: A major terror attack bid was thwarted in Punjab's Amritsar district after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered from behind the Rayya police post in the wee hours of Saturday.

The conspiracy to blow up police post under the jurisdiction of Beas police station was foiled by the Punjab Police.

The device was safely defused by a bomb disposal squad, preventing what officials described as a potentially devastating attack. SSP Amritsar Rural Sohail Qasim Mir said no terror outfit or gangster group had so far claimed responsibility for planting the IED.

Police received the information at around 10 am about recovery of a suspicious object. Following which, police personnel accompanied by bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and confirmed that the object was an IED. Security agencies cordoned off the area and launched extensive search operation.

Police are examining the CCTV footages to identify the accused who planted the explosives behind the police post. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, another IED was recovered from  Safapora in Kashmir's Ganderbal district. The bomb detection squad (BDS) of the army and J&K police detected the IED and defused it within hours.

The recoveries come in the line with security agencies sounding alert in the national capital with a warning of possible terror attack plot by Pakistan based outfit Lashkar targeting religious and tourists sites.
