PTC News Desk: A hotel owner's son was shot at in on the Zirakpur–Patiala Highway in broad daylight by a bike-borne assailant on Sunday. The accused opened at least five rounds of fire. The victim narrowly escaped unhurt by running for his life.
Two cars were damaged during the firing, after which the attacker fled the scene brandishing his weapon. The sudden gunfire caused panic among nearby people, and police were immediately informed.
According to police, the attack involved a gangster from Haryana who was known to the victim. Investigators have started examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, and alerts have been sent to neighboring police stations to intercept the accused. The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m.
The victim, identified as Gagan, is the son of the owner of MM Crown Hotel and a resident of Yamunanagar, Haryana. One car owner said that bullets struck his vehicle during the shooting. In total, five shots were fired, damaging two cars.
Police have identified the attacker as Shubham Pandit, one of Haryana’s most wanted gangsters, carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh on his head.
According to police, Pandit is also wanted in a triple murder case that took place on December 26, 2024, in Khedi Lakkha Singh village under Radaur police station. Following the Mohali shooting, police have circulated his posters in public places and on social media to expedite his capture.
Sources said that Shubham Pandit was also allegedly involved in an earlier firing incident outside Punjabi film producer Pinky Dhaliwal’s house in Sector 71, Mohali, where two bike-borne shooters had fired shots and left an extortion note. One accused was arrested in that case, and investigations revealed that Pandit had a role in that attack as well.
SHO Satinder Singh stated that police are exploring all possible angles. “The exact motive behind the firing is still unclear, but our teams are on high alert, and the accused will be arrested soon,” he said.
