Punjab Municipal Elections: Polling in Amritsar, Patiala, Jalandhar Begins

4:16 PM  Ward number 1 Congress wins,  Diljeet Kaur wins from Akali Beghowal, Jalandhar 
3:56 PM Daljeet Cheema, Vineet Joshi and N K Sharma staged a protest in front of State Election Commission Office in Chandigarh. Demanding stern against the perpetrators of violence in Patiala, The BJP-Akali Dal Leadership said the poll panel failed in executing its duties.

8:13 AM Voting begins in Patiala.

8:10 AM ”Our candidate Gurmit Kaur from ward number 59 has been detained by the Civil Line police in Patiala in some old case,” Daljit Singh Cheema said.

7:59 AM According to the spokesman of state election commission said that election commission has ordered videography in all the polling stations which have been declared very sensitive.

7:56 AM In Patiala, Amarpal Singh has been given the observer duty for wards 1-20, Sibin C for wards 21-40 and nagar panchayat Ghagga, Parveen Thind for wards 41-50 and nagar panchayat Ghanaur, and Hargunjit Kaur for wards 51-60 and Amloh MC in the Fatehgarh Sahib district.

7:51 AM For Jalandhar, TPS Phoolka has been appointed as the observer for wards 1-6, 53-55, 57-62, 63-66, 69-71, 79-80, Rahul Gupta PCS for wards 7-14, 16-17, 56, 15, 18-20, 48-52, 67-68, Abhinav for wards 21-47 and 72-78, Vikas Garg IAS for MC Bhogpur and Goraya and BS Rai IAS for nagar panchayat Bilga and Shahkot.

7:42 AM The IAS officers on observer duty in Amritsar are: MS Narang for ward number 1-21 and Nagar Panchayat Rajasansi, BS Dhaliwal for ward 22-42, Praneet for ward 43-64, and Ashwani Kumar for ward 65-85.

The voting for the municipal polls in Punjab will be held on Sunday, December 17. The ruling Congress, main Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance are in the fray. The voting will begin at 8 AM and end at 4 PM. Polling would be held for the municipal corporations of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala. The results of the Punjab Municipal Elections 2017 will be announced on Sunday evening.

A total of 769,153 voters will exercise their franchise in Amritsar where 413 candidates are in the fray in 85 wards. Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, 305 candidates are in the fray from 80 wards. The number of voters here is 560,261. The election will be held in 57 wards in Patiala in which 260,664 voters can exercise their franchise.
