Punjab accident: LPU students among three killed after bus plunges from flyover in Nawanshahr

PTC News Desk: A private bus fell from a flyover in Nawanshahr. Two students and the conductor were killed in the accident, while one student has reportedly gone missing.

The accident took place around 5 am on Monday near village Majari, close to Banga. The bus was carrying tourists returning from Manali and students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) to Amritsar.

The bus reportedly went out of control after the driver fell asleep at the wheel and plunged from the flyover. The crash was so severe that the bus was badly damaged.

After receiving information about the accident, police reached the spot and began an investigation. The identities of the dead and injured have not yet been confirmed. According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control while the bus was coming down the flyover. The speeding bus broke through the railing and fell below.

The impact caused panic in the area. Local residents informed the police, following which Banga police and rescue teams reached the spot and started relief operations.

Injured taken to hospital

Rescue teams worked to pull people trapped inside the bus out. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. After reports that one student was missing, a search was also launched for the student. Two students and the bus conductor died in the accident. However, the identities of the  victims and injured have not yet been confirmed. Police and the administration have also not officially confirmed the total number of deaths and injuries.

Police investigating the accident

Police inspected the site and started an investigation after being informed about the incident. They are investigating the cause of the accident and collecting information about the passengers on the bus. Eyewitnesses said the bus was travelling at high speed and crashed through the railing after the driver lost control. Police are currently investigating the case.
