No need to spend dollars on education in foreign countries: Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on NEP 2020

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Sunday said that students don’t need to spend dollars anymore on education in foreign countries as the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020) is in line with the global standards.

While addressing a webinar organised by IIT-Kharagpur on Saturday evening on the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020), Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that the country has a strong education system and quality research facilities.

He also said that there was no need for students to enroll in foreign universities, spending dollars on admission as India has all the infrastructure and facilities. The National Education Policy 2020 has further taken care of the issue so that our students will stay and study in our own country now, he said.

He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited the foreign universities to set up campuses in India even as he had encouraged Indian universities to build overseas campuses so that students are motivated to stay in India and study in India.

The Education Minister also said that the credit bank system in the NEP 2020 is in accordance with the global education programmes.

It enables the students to take a break from academic programmes, thus awarding certificates, diplomas and degrees.

Meanwhile, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank expressed hope that the digital platforms would help strengthen the country's higher education system in association with international practices.

During the webinar on ‘India: The Global Destination for Higher Education - Post NEP 2020 Scenario’, the IIT Kharagpur director VK Tewari lauded the concept of the multi-disciplinary research university as proposed under the NEP 2020.
