Women are weaker sex. They are not independent. They are there only to manage households. These are some of the random thoughts that one comes across whenever there is a talk about gender equality.It is probably why women in India are not looked upon as role models.All these thoughts are the key elements of the patriarchal society that prophecies the role of males as an important one. Punjab is one of the states in India that is witnessing an imbalance of male versus female ratio i.e. 1000/927.

There are many government and non government organisations (NGOs) engaged in  improving the female ratio.This may be due to various reasons or restrictions. Realising this dilemma, Harsimarat Kaur Badal came up with the Nanhi Chaan Punjabi Public Charitable Trust in August 2008 to empower women.

Though the Government agencies were unable to do much to improve the gender ratio, some NGOs took upon themselves the cudgels to do the needful.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the main driving force of Nanhi Chhaan. Under her mentorship of Harsimrat Kaur Badal, “Nanhi Chhaan” in Punjab is working towards making women socially, politically and economically independent. They are achieving this by vocational training courses and educating them.

PTC Network in association with Nanhi Chaan Punjabi Public Charitable Trust will felicitate all those survivors who rose like the Phoenix, not with any guidance but by life’s challenges, on December 16.

The show ‘Sirjanhaari – Sanman Naari Da’ was first aired on September 9, 2018, in which it showcased inspiring stories of 38 women across India. It received immense love and positive reviews from the audience. Member of Parliament Ms Meenakshi Lekhi, Senior Executive of a leading newspaper of Punjab & social activist Ms Gurjot Kaur and Ms Rajni Bector, founder of a well-known brand Cremica food, were among the jury members on the show.
