Teachers’ Day 2021: Teachers' Day, which is celebrated every year on September 5 in India, marks the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Dr Radhakrishnan, well-known for his notable work as a teacher and scholar, was the first Vice-President of India and the second President of Indi. He was born on September 5, 1888.

He encouraged the youth to step forward in shaping the world with education. Since 1962, September 5 is celebrated as Teachers' day to honor Dr Radhakrishnan's remarkable approach towards education.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan:
- He was born on September 5, 1888, into a Telugu family in Tiruttani town. He was an ace student and also received several scholarships throughout his life. He studied in schools at Tirupati and then at Vellore.
- He studied philosophy at the Christian College, Madras. Also, he is considered one of the greatest philosophers in history to date.
- Following the completion of his degree, he became Professor of Philosophy at Madras Presidency College and then Professor of Philosophy at the University of Mysore.
- He was appointed as the second president of India in 1962. He served for the designation till 1967.
- His notable works include Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore, Reign of Religion in Contemporary Philosophy, The Hindu View of Life, An Idealist View of Life, Kalki or the Future of Civilisation, The Religion We Need, Gautama the Buddha, India, and China, and several others.
