Punjab: PSPCL to give compensation up to Rs 10 lakh for electric shock deaths

In cases where PSPCL employees suffer fatal electric shocks, benefits as per service regulations will be provided

PTC Web Desk: Following a directive from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has announced a compensation policy for deaths caused by electric shocks. This initiative, under the Workmen's Compensation Act, aims to address incidents resulting in fatalities due to electric current.

The policy, unveiled after scrutiny from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, outlines differentiated compensation categories. In cases where PSPCL employees suffer fatal electric shocks, benefits as per service regulations will be provided. Additionally, under this new policy framework, compensation ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh has been established.



Moreover, in situations where an ordinary citizen succumbs to an electric shock, a similar compensation range of Rs 1 lakh to Rs. 10 lakhs has been defined. The policy also highlights the possibility of invoking the Workmen's Compensation Act for such cases.

It's outlined in the policy that the stipulated compensation amount will be disbursed within 30 days of the incident.
