Sensex opens record high, above 69,950; Nifty trades at 20,995, gains 130 points

On Friday, the primary indices hit unprecedented highs following the RBI's upward revision of the growth forecast for the ongoing fiscal year, while maintaining unchanged policy rates

Mumbai, December 11: The Sensex breached the historic 70,000-level for the first time in the early hours of Monday's trade, accompanied by the Nifty crossing the 21,000-mark, showcasing the sustained bullish momentum in the equity market.

This surge follows the new lifetime highs achieved by key indices on Friday, fueled by the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) upward revision of the growth forecast for the current fiscal year while maintaining unchanged policy rates. The 30-share Sensex reached a peak of 70,048.90 points shortly after opening, eventually settling at 69,958.13 points, reflecting a gain of 132.53 points or 0.19 percent from Friday's closing.

Correspondingly, the 50-share Nifty reached 21,019.80 points before stabilising at 20,984.65 points, showcasing an increase of 15.25 points or 0.07 percent. In the Sensex basket, 20 stocks were in positive territory, with 10 in the negative.

As for Nifty constituents, 27 stocks experienced gains, while 22 faced declines in the early trading session. The dynamics of foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) are closely monitored in the market.
