New Delhi, December 04: Yesterday, following the assembly election outcomes, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi convened a crucial parliamentary strategy committee meeting slated for 5:30 pm at her residence in 10 Janpath.

This move arrives in the wake of the grand old party's challenging performance in the state polls, facing setbacks in the Hindi heartland. The Congress lost power in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, and despite winning the 2018 election, failed to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party from retaining Madhya Pradesh.

In the Hindi heartland, the Congress maintains a ruling alliance with the Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Bihar and governs Himachal Pradesh. However, the party secured a significant victory in southern India by claiming Telangana from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, marking its second triumph in the region after Karnataka.

Responding to the results, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addressed the outcomes on the social media platform X. He expressed acceptance of the mandate in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan while highlighting the persistence of the ideological battle. He also extended gratitude to the people of Telangana, assuring fulfillment of promises and appreciating the relentless dedication of party workers.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, acknowledging the support from Telangana voters, labeled the results in the three Hindi-speaking states as 'disappointing.' Despite this setback, he emphasized the party's determination to rebuild and rejuvenate itself in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
