PTC News Desk: As midnight passed across different time zones, India joined the rest of the world in welcoming 2026. People celebrated in many ways — with fireworks, small gatherings and traditional customs linked to local culture.
When the clock struck twelve, fireworks lit up the sky and large crowds gathered at popular spots to welcome the New Year with hope and cheer.
In Delhi, places like India Gate and Connaught Place were packed with people celebrating well after midnight. To manage the crowds and traffic, more than 680 police personnel were deployed in busy areas like Connaught Place. Overall, around 20,000 police officers were on duty across the city to maintain law and order and prevent incidents such as drunk driving and dangerous stunts.
In Bengaluru, celebrations were in full swing on MG Road and Brigade Road, where crowds gathered and fireworks brightened the night sky as people welcomed 2026.
In Kashmir, locals and tourists marked the New Year with special events at famous tourist spots. Large numbers of visitors thronged Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg to enjoy fresh snowfall and ring in the New Year. Celebrations also took place near the historic Clock Tower at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
