Heartwarming: Retired judge welcomes daughter after divorce with drumrolls, celebrates freedom from woes
Heartwarming: Divorce often seen as a taboo, specially in Indian households, however, in a heartfelt and unconventional gesture, a father turned his daughter's divorce into celebration of freedom and welcomed her home with sweets and drumrolls.
Several videos of the celebrations are doing rounds on social media.
The woman, identified as Pratiksha, returned to her home in Shastri Nagar after being officially granted a divorce on April 4. Rather than mourning the end of her marriage, her father, a retired judge, chose to mark the moment as a fresh start in her life.
Vineeta got married in 2018. The marriage soon turned bitter and didn't last long. After 7 years, divorce was formalized recently and Vineeta's parents celebrated it with Dhol, dance and sweets in the court premises in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. In the video, family members were seen wearing black T-shirts printed with Pranita's photograph and the message, "I Love My Daughter. My Heart, My Soul." Pranita, too, wore a black T-shirt that read, "My Family, My Life."
Pratiksha married Major Gaurav Agnihotri in 2018 and the couple has a son. However following mounting allegations of harassment and other disputed, the marriage deteriorated gradually leading to divorce.
Speaking about his decision to celebrate, the father said he wanted to ensure his daughter did not feel burdened by societal judgment. “I cannot see my daughter unhappy. If she spent six years in distress and returned home, I did not want her to carry any more pain,” he said.
He added that his intention was also to send a broader message: that daughters deserve the same love, dignity, and support as sons, especially during difficult life transitions
