Delhi woman’s lemon ‘totka’ ritual goes wrong: New Thar crashes out of showroom’s first floor | Watch Video
While the ritual was intended to bring good luck, it instead sparked panic and left onlookers stunned
PTC Web Desk: A bizarre mishap was reported in Delhi’s Nirman Vihar when a traditional ritual to mark the delivery of a brand-new Mahindra Thar ended in chaos. A 29-year-old woman, eager to perform the customary ‘totka’ of crushing a lemon under her vehicle’s wheel for good luck, accidentally drove the SUV straight out of the showroom’s first floor.
The woman, identified as Maani Pawar from Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, had just purchased the Thar Rox variant with her husband Pradeep. Moments after receiving the keys, she attempted the lemon-crushing ritual. However, instead of gently rolling the vehicle forward, she mistakenly pressed the accelerator. The powerful SUV lunged forward, smashed through the glass façade, and crashed onto the pavement below.
A showroom staff member, Vikas, was inside the vehicle with Maani Pawar when the accident occurred. CCTV and bystander videos show the Thar overturned on the road in a shocking scene. Fortunately, the airbags deployed, and both Pawar and Vikas escaped with only minor injuries. They were quickly taken to Malik Hospital for treatment and discharged after first aid.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Abhishek Dhania, confirmed that a medico-legal case (MLC) has been filed. “The woman and her husband had recently purchased the Thar Rox variant. Necessary procedures have been completed,” he said.
While the ritual was intended to bring good luck, it instead sparked panic and left onlookers stunned. Thankfully, the incident ended without major injuries, though the brand-new Thar was left badly damaged.
