PTC Web Desk: Anmol Sher Singh Bedi, an Indian Foreign Service officer from Amritsar, has put forward India's views at the United Nations, saying the world body must win back people's trust and that the process should start with the Security Council.

Bedi works at India's Permanent Mission to the UN. He spoke on India's behalf during a First Committee debate on working methods at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Sharing details on X after the debate, he said he had delivered India's statement. He pointed out that "trust is the core currency of the multilateral system" and said that bringing it back must begin with the part of the UN that needs reform the most, the Security Council.

India has been asking for changes to the Security Council for many years. It argues that the council still reflects the world of the past and does not properly represent today's realities, or the interests of developing countries.

Bedi's remarks follow the same line. They also come at a time when many countries are questioning whether global institutions are fair and effective.

For Amritsar, the moment has brought some pride, as one of its own represented the country on an international platform.
