PTC Web Desk:  A shocking incident has been reported from Bangladesh’s Rajbari district, where a Hindu youth was killed after being run over by a vehicle for asking payment for fuel, raising fresh concerns over violence targeting minorities ahead of the country’s general elections.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Ripon Saha, was working at a petrol pump when a black SUV arrived in the early hours of Friday and refuelled diesel worth around 5,000 taka. According to local reports, the occupants attempted to flee without paying. When Ripon tried to stop the vehicle, he was deliberately run over, resulting in his death on the spot.

The police have arrested the owner of the SUV, Abul Hashim, a former office-bearer of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with the driver. An investigation is underway to ascertain further details of the case.

The killing comes at a time when incidents of violence against the Hindu community are reportedly rising in Bangladesh ahead of the February 12 general elections. According to the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, as many as 51 incidents of communal violence were recorded in December 2025 alone.

Several recent attacks have also been reported, including the murder of jeweller Prantos Sarkar in Narsingdi and the killing of a garment factory worker in Mymensingh, who was allegedly set on fire by a mob.
