End Ukraine war or face 100% tariffs: Trumps 50-day ultimatum to Putin
The ultimatum comes amid US' announcement to supply arms to Ukraine following Russia's continued missile strikes despite talks of ceasefire.
PTC News Desk: US President Donald Trump on Monday issued an ultimatum to Russian President over ending ong-standing conflict with Ukraine. While giving a deadline of 50-days, Trump said that US will slap a sweeping 100 % tariffs on Russia if Putin doesn't agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine.
"We're going to be doing secondary tariffs. If we don't have a deal in 50 days, it's very simple. And they'll be at 100 percent, and that's the way it is," Trump said while speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday.
The ultimatum comes amid US' announcement to supply arms to Ukraine following Russia's continued missile strikes despite talks of ceasefire.
Earlier Donald trump said expressed his dissapointment for Russian leader for vouching for peace but bombing Ukraine at the same time.
"I am very disappointed with President Putin," he said. "I thought he was somebody that meant what he said — and he'll talk so beautifully, then he'll bomb people at night. I don't like it."
Trump also said that the Patriot missile systems and batteries will be among the weapons the US would send to Nato to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
"We're not happy with Putin — I'm not happy with Putin because he's killing a lot of people,” Trump said, responding to a question on the war. “It’s turned out to be tougher,” he added, referring to the drawn-out conflict that has left tens of thousands dead and reshaped global security.
"If I was Vladimir Putin today, and you're speaking about what you are planning to do in 50 days. I would reconsider whether I should not take negotiations about Ukraine more seriously," Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, who joined Trump for talks at the White House, said in support of his stance.
