Gujarat-bound Thai cargo ship attacked in Strait of Hormuz, 20 crew members rescued
PTC News Desk: A Thai-flagged cargo ship travelling towards Gujarat was hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, causing a fire on board and triggering a rescue operation.
The vessel, identified as Mayuree Naree, was attacked about 11 nautical miles off the northern coast of Oman, according to maritime security sources and ship tracking data.
Thailand’s government said that 20 crew members were safely rescued after the incident, while three crew members remain on the ship. Both the Royal Thai Navy and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations confirmed that a cargo vessel had been struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on March 11.
Images and maritime records later confirmed the ship’s identity as the Mayuree Naree. Officials verified the vessel using its International Maritime Organisation (IMO) number and by matching the ship’s structure with archived images.
According to maritime records, the ship is owned by Precious Shipping.
