FBI adds Indian-origin man Manjit Bedi to most wanted list, offers reward up to $150k for information

PTC News Desk: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has added Indian-origin man to its most wanted list of fraudsters for his alleged involvement in irregularities in the US government's benefits scheme.  The FBI has also announced a of up to $150,000 for information leading to Bedi's arrest and conviction.

According to the FBI, Bedi operated a small grocery store in Tacoma, Washington, and swiped customers' government benefits cards to give them cash instead of food under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme (SNAP).

According to the FBI, Bedi, a naturalised US citizen, ran an Asian grocery store in Tacoma, Washington. He is accused of misusing customers' Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards by processing transactions without actually providing food.

Instead, Bedi allegedly gave SNAP beneficiaries cash and kept half of the money for himself. The FBI said he would swipe their EBT cards and provide cash instead of food.

Bedi was indicted on charges of wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud. However, he was initially allowed to appear in court without being arrested. He was ordered to surrender his passport and remain in Washington state.

The FBI said Bedi later drove into Canada and fled to India.

A federal arrest warrant was issued against him on May 21, 2026, by the US District Court for the Western District of Washington after he allegedly violated the conditions imposed on him.

The FBI believes Bedi is currently living in India.
