Indian-origin man, 28, killed in Canadas Burnaby, gangwar link suspected

PTC News Desk: Police in Burnaby, Canada, have said the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old Indian-origin man on Thursday may be linked to an ongoing gang conflict. The victim has been identified as Dilraj Singh Gill, a Vancouver resident who was reportedly known to law enforcement.


According to Burnaby RCMP, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the 3700 block of Canada Way shortly before 5:30 p.m. on January 22, 2026. Upon arrival, they found an injured man who later died despite emergency medical efforts.


Soon after the shooting, police discovered a burning vehicle in the 5000 block of Buxton Street. Authorities are investigating whether the vehicle is connected to the homicide.


The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case. In a statement, police said the shooting appears to be associated with the ongoing BC gang conflict. Investigators have confirmed that the burned vehicle is linked to the killing and are working to gather more information.


Sergeant Freda Fong said homicide detectives are collaborating with Burnaby RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service, and the BC Coroners Service to collect evidence and move the investigation forward.
