PTC News Desk: In a recent episode of the India-Maldives diplomatic row, the Maldivian government alleged that Indian coast guard personnel were recently spotted on three Maldivian fishing vessels and questioned why they boarded the vessels without consultation.

According to the Maldives defence ministry, they were informed on Wednesday that personnel from a foreign military had boarded a Maldives fishing boat. Later, when they arrived at the vessel, they discovered that the members were from the Indian Coast Guard.

According to a statement from the defence ministry, “On Feb. 1, 2024, the foreign ministry of the Maldives has asked (India) officially for the details of the operation that was carried out while Maldivians were fishing in the Maldivian exclusive economic zone, without any coordination with the relevant authorities and against all international laws."

The Indian government provided no immediate response to the Maldivian allegations.
