Massive explosion in Bangladesh’s Dhaka; 16 killed, over 120 injured

Bangladesh explosion: At least 16 people have been killed and over 120 were injured in an explosion at a multi-storied building in Bangladesh's Dhaka.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 4 p.m. Eleven fire departments responded to the scene to conduct rescue operations. People who had been injured were taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. According to DMCH Director Brig Gen Md Nazmul Haque, approximately 120 people were injured in the explosion.

“We have to cut through the concrete to rescue them. The fire service is working on it," Hafiz Akter, the additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said on Tuesday evening.

The building was a commercial structure with a number of offices and shops, and it was located in the bustling Siddique Bazaar.

According to reports, the explosion happened in a store selling cleaning supplies on the ground floor of the five-storey structure.
