PTC News Desk: A brief exchange between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit on Monday drew attention online after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was seen watching the two leaders walk past him.

The widely shared video captured the moment on the sidelines of the summit’s ceremonial events in Tianjin, where Modi and Putin were spotted walking together in conversation before sharing a warm hug and proceeding to formal meetings.

The summit, attended by leaders from across the region including Modi, Putin, and Sharif, is the largest in the SCO’s history, with China—holding the current presidency—inviting 20 foreign leaders and 10 heads of international organisations, including the UN Secretary-General.

At the banquet, President Xi Jinping underscored the SCO’s growing responsibilities amid global turbulence, stressing its role in maintaining regional peace, promoting development, and deepening cooperation among Global South nations. He voiced confidence that the summit would succeed and that the SCO would remain a contributor to the advancement of human civilization.

After its military clash with India, Islamabad has sought closer ties with Washington, even attributing the ceasefire with New Delhi to US President Donald Trump. India, however, has repeatedly asserted that the truce was established after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations personally reached out to his Indian counterpart with the request.
