Sikh woman in Canada killed at home, husband charged with second-degree murder; neighbours reveal shocking details

PTC News Desk: A woman was killed in an alleged intimate partner violence incident at a Sikh household in London, Ontario. Police have described the case as femicide.

The incident took place on September 15 at a home on Chelton Road in the Summerside area. When police arrived, they found Raman Devi, a mother of two, critically injured. She was taken to hospital but later died.

Police have arrested and charged her husband, 41-year-old Mandee Singh, with second-degree murder.

Neighbours reveal shocking details

Neighbours told CBC News that Raman Devi's mother was seen leaving the house with the two children in a distressed state before police arrived.

Neighbour Sam Awdi said he saw an elderly woman coming out of the house shouting and hitting herself while accompanied by the two children. He said the incident was deeply upsetting and that he had never witnessed anything similar during his 40 years in the city.

Devi was studying massage therapy, and her death shocked her classmates, according to the London Free Press.

Her classmate Sandra Sanchez also started an online fundraiser. She remembered Devi as someone whose presence brought happiness and affection to those around her and said she would always have a special place in their hearts.

Gurdwara London Sikh Society too set up a fundraiser for Devi. "The loss of a mother is an unimaginable pain. For Raman Devi's young children, this loss is especially heartbreaking, as they must now face the years ahead without their mother’s love, care, guidance, and comforting presence. No child should have to experience such a profound loss at such a young age," their fundraiser said.
